THE DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. MLK365 GRANT COMMITTEE ANNOUNCES:
THE
“SELF HELP GRANT” APPLICATION PROCESS.

On January 19, 2009, the federal holiday in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. will be celebrated at the Sacramento Convention Center (1400 J St.). Starting with a March and ending with an Expo including a job fair, vendors, crafts and entertainment.

This comprehensive program will have a key focus on assisting unemployed or underemployed people in our community and will exemplify Dr. King’s commitment to economic opportunity for everyone.

To further Dr. King’s work and assist job ready persons in Sacramento, grants up to $150 will be awarded.

To apply for a “self-help grant,” the applicant should:

• be unemployed or underemployed for 3 months or longer
• be at least 18 years of age
• be actively preparing themselves for employment or be registered with a
   job/vocational training program (i.e. ROP, Job Corp, WIA, DHA, Refugee training)
• submit an application with resume and personal references
• provide proof of need showing that the grant will increase their ability to obtain employment      
  (i.e. estimated invoice for clothing, tools, books)
