Marching Makes A Difference

Welcome to the March for the Dream! This event brings Northern Californians together to honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. and to continue the march for civil rights, social justice and human value.  Jam-packed and highly interactive from start to finish with a MARCH, a RALLY and an EXPO, this one day event attracts a diverse crowd of 28,000 very enthusiastic participants to downtown Sacramento for day of civic engagement, reflection, and enrichment.

The march will start at Sacramento City College, in the parking area of Hughes Stadium. The "Marade" (March and parade) as we affectionately call it winds its way through some of Sacramento's most historic neighbourhoods, pausing only briefly as the marchers pass by the reviewing stand at the State Capitol before concluding at the Sacramento Convention Center.

    The march will begin at Sacramento City College where there’s plenty of free parking, great access to public transit and is in close proximity to both the 99 and i-5 freeways. Marchers will assemble in the non-covered parking area between Sacramento City College and Hughes Stadium. Don’t forget to bring money to buy your official march for the dream shirt and food at the end of the march.


  • The March Review

    The march will pass by the March Reviewing Stand on the west steps of the state capitol before concluding at the Sacramento Convention Center.


  • The Expo

    The Diversity expo takes place at the Sacramento Convention Center where marchers can enjoy a talent show, participate in a dramatic reenactments, gain enrichment from our educational experience or engage with individuals who were apart of the civil rights movement at our wisdom corner.

The Diversity Expo caps our highly interactive six mile walk. With chock-full of interesting people and engaging activities, the Expo is educational, entertaining, but most of all FUN!


Come and join us for our Education Experience.  Featuring activities for kindergarten through high school age students, you'll enjoy arts and crafts, face painting, movies, singing and various types of educational resources. 


Connect with employers, get health screenings and information from human services agencies on site. 


Don't forget vendors who will be selling their products. So don't forget to bring money so you can support the many on-site vendors.

If entertainment is your thing, you will not want to miss the MLK365's Multi-Cultural Talent showcase of Stars on the main stage with Ms. Joy Smith

Perhaps, you're a professional or amateur actor and would like to volunteer your talents as a cast member of an ensemble of actors to educate and entertain. 


For those of us who are "young at heart" and need a place relax after a six mile march, our Wisdom Corner is a place you can relax and hear poetry, music, see videos and listen to speakers who lived the civil rights movement

We'll save you a chair!


The Art Village features varied works of local artists who would love very much for you to visit and perhaps purchase something from their collection!
